When you want a team that can step up when it counts, the LA Galaxy can give it a shot.
When it comes to putting together a winning team, it’s not always easy to do so on your own.
The LA Galaxy has proven to be a team capable of putting together its own pieces, with players like Robbie Keane, Gyasi Zardes and Gyasi Paunovic all finding success in their own roles.
Now it’s time to bring those pieces together, and with that comes a need for a new central striker.
As we approach the offseason, we can look to a trio of strikers who could be in the running for the LA title this season.
For the Galaxy, it would be a tough decision to choose between Giovani dos Santos and Robbie Keane.
The duo have shown signs of chemistry in the past, and while the former is an elite striker, he has been struggling to make a mark at the highest level.
The Galaxy have been lacking a central striker for some time now, and the possibility of an explosive duo with both goals scored and assists is tantalizing.
If you look at their performances, it seems like Keane and dos Santos are best off playing in the attacking third.
They are both a threat from wide areas, and they are both excellent passers, with Keane finishing around 40% of his passes.
Dos Santos’ goal against Real Salt Lake proved to be the difference-maker in a 3-0 win.
His ability to get into the box and shoot would be an ideal complement to Keane, and if they were to start, it could give them the opportunity to win the MLS Cup.
While Keane and Dos Santos are both on the same page with their gameplan, both have their flaws.
Both can be very dangerous, and both lack a consistent shot from distance.
If you look back to last season, Keane was the better shooter on the team with 8 goals in 26 appearances, while dos Santos only managed 1 goal and 4 assists in 32 appearances.
In that time, the team that won the championship had the second best shooting percentage in the league, and when they were on the field together, they produced a league-leading 4.7% shooting percentage.
The Galaxy could use some scoring from the wings.
While Keane is a player that can score goals off the dribble, Dos Santos is a goal scorer who can shoot from distance as well.
If the LA front line can be the team to score a goal, they could put a few more shots on goal.
The LA Galaxy could also bring in a winger to provide some attacking options for Dos Santos and Keane.
If both players are able to get their shots on target, and Keane and Santos are able forgo their natural goal scoring ability, the attacking options that they provide could be a valuable addition to a team.
While Dos Santos has been the team’s best shooter this season, he is still far from a surefire starter.
He has only scored 4 goals in 21 games, and in those games, he only scored 1 goal, and 1 assist.
Keane is also a bit of a mystery, as he is only scoring 5 goals in 18 games, while he has only netted 2 goals in 16 appearances.
It would be interesting to see if the Galaxy could see a change in Dos Santos or Keane, as the two may have to wait until the regular season to see what their roles are going to be.
