The sequel to the critically acclaimed Godzilla: The Return of the King has earned a record-breaking $1.3 billion in digital sales on its way to becoming the highest-grossing digital title of the year, according to the latest figures from the game’s developer, Marvelous.
The game, which was released in Japan last November, is Marvelous’ first game to reach the $1 billion mark.
The developer had been hoping to get the digital title to the $5 billion mark in Japan, where the franchise is highly popular, by the end of the week.
The milestone is a major step in the evolution of the Japanese-based game franchise, which has earned over $5.6 billion globally, according in the last year alone.
The game, however, is not the first to break into the $10 billion-dollar-plus mark.
